1. What is the 3M Speedglas G5-01VC Helmet with Adflo System used for?

The 3M Speedglas G5-01VC with Adflo is a powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) welding helmet designed for professional welders in industries such as fabrication, aerospace, and oil & gas. It provides advanced eye, face, and respiratory protection against welding fumes — helping employers meet HSE welding fume control requirements.

2. What level of respiratory protection does this helmet provide?

When used with the Adflo PAPR system, the G5-01VC provides TH3-level protection with a Nominal Protection Factor (NPF) of up to 500. This is the highest level of protection available for powered air welding respirators, suitable for heavy-duty welding where fume exposure is a concern.

3. Does this helmet meet HSE welding fume requirements?

Yes. The HSE requires employers to control exposure to welding fume, which is now classified as carcinogenic. A TH3 PAPR like the G5-01VC with Adflo provides effective respiratory protection and can form part of a compliant welding fume control strategy alongside LEV and other measures.

4. Can the G5-01VC be used for grinding as well as welding?

Yes. The helmet features a flip-up clear visor that provides a wide field of view and impact protection, allowing seamless transition between welding, grinding, and inspection without removing the helmet.

5. What filters does the Adflo system use, and are replacements available?

8. How do I maintain and clean the helmet and Adflo system?

Wipe the helmet and visor with a clean, damp cloth after use. Inspect filters regularly and replace as needed (filter life depends on working environment). Store in a clean, dry place. Full maintenance instructions are included with the product, and datasheets are available on this page.
