Should Children Be Wearing Face Masks During COVID-19?

Posted by The Face Mask Store on 21st Jul 2021

Since experiencing the pandemic over the last 15 or so months, mask wearing has although been law, been highly controversial to many people of all ages. Debates on who should, shouldn’t and will and will not wear one has sparked conversations across the country. However, it has been scientifically proven that face masks remain a powerful tool to protect us from COVID-19, as well as any other illnesses and germs. This has been especially privital for children that are too young to get vaccinated.

Although the government has recently announced the lifting of restrictions as of June 19th, face masks may still be something you want to consider wearing throughout the next few months at least. In this blog post, we are going to explain why keeping your child safe from germs could be so easily done by having them wear a face mask.

Should children wear face masks?

Recommended by many health experts, until a child has been fully vaccinated, or if they are too young to receive the vaccine, children should and will benefit from wearing a face mask when in any public areas, especially any busy and enclosed spaces. Face masks offer children protection when it is impossible or difficult to keep a safe distance from anyone, especially those that could or have Covid.

It has been suggested that children above the age of 2 are safe to wear a face covering, unless exempt due to medical issues or illnesses. Children under 2 should not wear a face mask, due to the risk of suffocation.

When should children wear a mask?

It is always safe for children to wear a mask when taking part in group activities, or when going to be in close contact with other children. Although masks protect against COVID-19, they can be used whenever deemed necessary to keep your child protected from any airborne germs they may be exposed to. Public transport is also a place where you can protect your children by having them wear a mask, as these are small, enclosed spaces where germs and bacteria can easily be transferred from person to person.
