It is a belt-mounted powered air (PAPR) turbo unit for asbestos and other high-hazard particulate work. The turbo draws air through P3 particulate filters and delivers a regulated flow of filtered air to a connected 3M full facepiece. It has an integrated battery and audible and visual warnings for low battery and low airflow.

This is the turbo unit only. A complete powered respirator also needs a 3M FF-600 Series full facepiece (for example the FF-603), DT-1135E P3 filters and a breathing tube. These are available separately, or buy the ready-to-use 3M PF-600E-ASB-FF-603 kit. Confirm the configuration against the 3M datasheet and your risk assessment.

For asbestos use with a 3M FF-600 Series full facepiece, 3M’s UK product information states approval with the 3M DT-1135E P3 particulate filter. Do not substitute gas or combination filters for asbestos work unless current 3M documentation and the site risk assessment confirm that configuration is approved for the task.

3M’s PF-602E-ASB technical datasheet states battery operating time is at least 4.5 hours, depending on the filter and facepiece combination, filter loading, charge condition, battery age, temperature and work rate. The turbo includes audible and visual warnings for low battery or insufficient airflow.

3M states the PF-602E-ASB is suitable for cleaning by showering or water spray to IP65 when the correct filters or decontamination plugs are fitted in the filter ports and the hose or hose-port plug is fitted. Always follow the current 3M cleaning, decontamination and inspection instructions before re-use.
