The G5-01/03TW is optimised for tack welding: it switches cleanly through rapid, repeated short arcs and uses 3M Natural Colour Technology for a clear, true-to-life view. Its dark shade range is 8–13 with a light state of 2.5. The alternative G5-01/03VC filter (helmet 631830) adds Variable Colour Technology with three selectable dark-state colours and a slightly wider 8–14 shade range. Both fit the same G5-03 Pro helmet.

The G5-01/03TW filter is rated for most arc processes — MMA (stick), MIG/MAG, TIG and low-amp TIG from 1 A — plus cutting and grinding, with dedicated grind (shade 2.5) and cut (shade 5) modes.

A rechargeable battery pack connects to the rear of the helmet for a balanced fit, and the same helmet platform runs as the G5-03 Pro Air with a 3M Adflo powered air respirator for TH3 respiratory protection. The G5-01/03TW filter runs on a single CR2450 lithium 3 V cell with an expected life of 1500 to 2000 hours. The filter switches off automatically when not in use to preserve battery life, and settings such as shade, sensitivity and delay can be managed over Bluetooth using the 3M equipment app.
